In the 1890s, the term "powder blue" began to be used as a color name, even though it initially referred to a somewhat darker shade of blue. The term "powdered cobalt glass" was the origin of the term "powder blue." A touch of mystique is added to this bluish-gray color by the fact that no one is fully sure how or when the meaning of "powder blue" shifted to the lighter tint that it has today.
